News

We have a new feature available through our web site - an online Hokie Business Directory for the Fredericksburg area. We don't have many businesses listed yet, but we hope the directory will grow as more people find out that it is available.

If you're a Hokie (or related to a Hokie) and want to get your business listed, the "how to" information is on the directory web page. We are planning for this to be free during a trial period, and then possbily cost $25 a year. This would support our scholarship fund and other chapter activities.

The Fredericksburg Area Chapter of the VTAA is planning to award up to seven $1000 scholarships to area students who will be attending Virginia Tech as freshmen in the fall of 2012. More info will be posted here soon.

If you stop by Buffalo Wild Wings at Central Park or Southpoint in Fredericksburg, please drop your reciept in the VT box by the door. BWW is donating 10% of the value of the receipts to our Chapter Scholarship Fund!

We now have a group page on Facebook. You can visit our page and join us by clicking on the Facebook logo.
The Hokie Nation Network (HNN) is a new social and professional networking site for Hokies. You can use HNN to find a job, develop an extended network of business contacts, make new acquaintances, or simply reconnect with old friends. And the VTAA Fredericksburg Area Chapter now has a group on HNN. After you join HNN, just search for "Fredericksburg Alumni Chapter" in the Groups section of the network.
Please help us keep you informed about Virginia Tech and the Fredericksburg Area Chapter of the VTAA by letting us know your email address. Click here to get on our email list. This is a confidential list, and your e-mail address will not be shared. Only Hokie related mail will be sent.

Events

February 2 (Thursday) - "Hokie Day 2012" at the General Assembly
This is an extremely important year for Virginia Tech's requests for operating and capital project support in the biennial budget. We need Virginia Tech alumni and student representatives to help by coming together in Richmond for the annual "Hokie Day" to visit with legislators. This is probably the toughest budget the state has had to consider with a continuing economic recession. We will gather for breakfast and a briefing in the SunTrust Bank Building downtown, and then move to the "Hill" to show our strong presence of Hokies. We have invited Governor McDonnell to visit with us at some point during our visit. We will return later to the same room at SunTrust for lunch and a debriefing of our earlier visits. For all the details, including how to RSVP, please click here.

February 6 (Monday), 7:00 to 8:00 PM - Chapter Meeting
All are welcome and encouraged to attend. The chapter holds a meeting every even month on the first Monday of the month. The February meeting wil be held at 912 Marye Street, Fredericksburg. Please try to find time in your schedule to help us do good work within our community and showcase the spirit of the Hokie Nation.

May 5 (Saturday), 2:30 to 5:00 PM - Volunteer Opportunity
Our chapter is planning to help the Rappahannock Adult Activities, Inc. (RAAI) with it's MAYFEST event. We are looking for volunteers to collapse and store chairs and tables after the event. For all the details, please click here.
