We held elections for Officers and Directors at the Chapter meeting in June. A list of the current Officers and Directors can be found by clicking on the link to the left. We like to thank Mark Steele for serving as our Chapter President for the past two years, and for allowing us to continue to hold our meetings at his office in downtown Fredericksburg.

We have rehosted our web site to a new web hosting service, and have set up the email list server. Virginia Tech is continuing a program, VT-Engage, which challenges alumni worldwide to perform
community service. The first year of the program ended on May 8, 2008, and the second year of the program
is underway. The University is asking all alumni to donate 10 hours of community service per year. You can
register your community service activities by clicking on the VT-Engage link in the "Links" section below.

August 2 (Sunday) - "Alumni Welcoming Freshmen" Crab Fest and Picnic This annual event will be held at the Elks Lodge Pavilion at 11309 Tidewater Trail starting at 4:00 PM. Plan to join us as we welcome the new Hokies from our area that will heading to Virginia Tech this fall. The picnic features crabs (cooked on site), hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, and all the fixin's! August 10 (Monday) at 7:00 PM - Chapter Board Meeting
All are welcome to attend. The board of directors meets every even month on
the first Monday of the month at the office of The Title Professionals (1010
Charles Street). Please try to find time in your schedule to help us do good
work within our community and showcase the spirit of the Hokie Nation.
Football Game Watching Parties
We are working at organizong game watching parties for the 2009 Hokie football season. We'll post details here as they become available. Go Hokies! Beat Bama!
Dec 12 & 13 - HFFI Candlelight Tour
We will once again be helping the Historic Fredericksburg Foundation (HFFI) with their candlelight tour, and we will looking for volunteers to work 2 hour shifts manning road barricades. Please check here for more information as the date gets closer. Volunteers will be able to buy discounted tickets for the tour.

Mission
The Fredericksburg Area Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association serves the City of Fredericksburg, and the counties of King George, Caroline, Stafford, and Spotsylvania. The basic purpose of our chapter is to:
- Provide an important link between alumni and the university
- Promote the image and reputation of Virginia Tech within the community
- Promote strong positive relationships among alumni, students, parents and others within the community
- Support the activities of Virginia Tech and work toward the realization of the university's educational goals
- Provide the university with a strong core of alumni volunteers who serve as an important marketing arm of the university
- Promote the Hokie spirit of Virginia Tech
