The Fredericksburg Area Chapter of the VTAA will once again be awarding up to seven $1000 scholarships to area students who will be attending Virginia Tech as freshmen in the fall of 2010. Applicants must have received an official offer of admission to Virginia Tech and will graduate from a high school within the geographic region of the chapter. That region includes the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford and the City of Fredericksburg. Please click on the links below for additional information. Thank you to all the volunteers that helped us man the street barricades for the Historic Fredericksburg Foundation's 2009 Candlelight Tour, especially those of you that were out in the nasty weather on Sunday.

Virginia Tech is continuing a program, VT-Engage, which challenges alumni worldwide to perform
community service. The program started in 2007. The University is asking all alumni to donate 10 hours of community service per year. You can
register your community service activities by clicking on the VT-Engage link in the "Links" section below.

Bud is recovering from a fall, and will not be able to be with us on February 4. We hope to be able to reschedule the event for another date. Please check back here for updates.
VT Men's Basketball Game Watching Parties/Fundraisers

We are hosting game watching parties at
Buffalo Wild Wings at Central Park in Fredericksburg during the 2009 Hokie men's basketball season. This is a great opportunity to cheer the team on to victory with other Hokies, and you'll also be helping us raise funds for Chapter scholarships and other activities. At the end of the game, please leave your receipt in the
specially marked box (the box is on the left side of the front door wall as you exit and is marked with a maroon VT on the side) and the Chapter will receive 10% of the total. There will also be food and drink specials for all those in
Hokie apparal. Please ask your server about the specials. We are currently planning to host parties for all of the Hokie basketball games this season that are televised. You can

| In addition to Buffalo Wild Wings working with us for the basketball games, they will give us 10% of your receipt all the time! Just drop your receipt in the VT box by the front door. And tell all your friends about this even if they are not Hokies. Any receipts in the box will result in funds for our Scholarship Fund! | ||
March 27 (Saturday) - Northern Neck Wine Tour, Tasting, and Tutorial

We will be visiting Ingleside Vineyard in Oak Grove, Hague Winery in Hague, and Belle Mount Vineyards in Warsaw. The fee is $50 and includes: motor coach travel, box lunch, private tours, wine tastings, and light picnic fare on the bus. This event is limited to 50 participants, so RSVP by March 13. Departure will be at 10:00 AM from the Sophia Street Commuter Lot in Fredericksburg, and we expect to return at 6:00 PM. April 5 (Monday) at 7:00 PM - Chapter Meeting
All are welcome and encouraged to attend. The chapter holds a meeting every even month on
the first Monday of the month. It is usually at the office of The Title Professionals (1010
Charles Street), but this meeting will probably be at Laura Noel's house. Please try to find time in your schedule to help us do good
work within our community and showcase the spirit of the Hokie Nation.

Mission
The Fredericksburg Area Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association serves the City of Fredericksburg, and the counties of King George, Caroline, Stafford, and Spotsylvania. The basic purpose of our chapter is to:
- Provide an important link between alumni and the university
- Promote the image and reputation of Virginia Tech within the community
- Promote strong positive relationships among alumni, students, parents and others within the community
- Support the activities of Virginia Tech and work toward the realization of the university's educational goals
- Provide the university with a strong core of alumni volunteers who serve as an important marketing arm of the university
- Promote the Hokie spirit of Virginia Tech
